Randle Reef Update

HPA was pleased to host the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, who announced a new step forward for the Randle Reef remediation project.

Minister McKenna was accompanied by the project funding partners, representing the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change, the City of Hamilton, the City of Burlington, the Hamilton Port Authority, and Stelco.

The stage-two contract was awarded to Milestone Environmental Contracting Inc. and Fraser River Pile & Dredge Inc., and is valued at $32.9 million. As part of this contract, the company will dredge contaminated sediments from the harbour floor and place it into the engineered containment facility, currently under construction in the Hamilton Harbour. Work for stage two is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2018 and is expected to be complete in 2020.
