Here Comes the Big Red Bus

This fall HPA supported the CityKidz transportation program with a $5,000 donation, providing one full season of transportation to all youth in the CityYouth program. Transportation is one of the most critical components of the program, transporting youth door-to-door, ensuring they get to and from CityYouth safely.

Supporting Youth

For Giving Tuesday, HPA purchased the first 100 copies of Fredrick Dryden’s new book “Running For Their Lives” and donated them back to Liberty for Youth (LFY) so they could be given out to individuals and youth in the community. HPA has been supporting the work LFY does in our community since 2011 with almost $100,000 in donations.

Pollinator Garden

A second pollinator garden was planted this fall on the north side of HPA headquarters at 605 James Street North. The garden was planted as part of the Pollinator Paradise Project and is the latest step in HPA’s effort to create a corridor of native plantings that provide food and shelter for pollinators as they travel across Hamilton’s working waterfront.

Happy Birthday!

October 20th marked the 160th birthday of the Burlington Canal Lighthouse. HPA joined the Beach Canal Lighthouse Group at Fisherman’s Pier to celebrate this milestone with guided tours of the lighthouse grounds, birthday cake, and souvenirs.

Sharing the Warmth

This season HPA staff, along with Port Partners Bermingham Foundations and Heddle Marine Services, collected 80 coats for Good Shepherd Hamilton. Since 2013, 596 coats have been collected to help keep families in our community warm.
