Fishermans Pier Development
Fishermans Pier Development Plan
In October 2003, the Hamilton Port Authority began working with a team of consultants to develop a plan for the area known as Fishermans Pier. In 2006, after carefully reviewing the development options for the site, the Port Authority is planning to create an innovative, small scale, attractive commercial development that meets the needs of the community and visitors from the Golden Horseshoe region.
Where is Fishermans Pier?
Fishermans Pier is located on both sides of the Burlington Canal at the boundary between Hamilton and Burlington. There are a number
of landmarks on and around the site including Hamilton Beach, Burlington Beach and the waterfront recreational trails, the
Burlington Skyway bridges, the lift bridge on Eastport Drive and the long piers stretching into Lake Ontario. The Port Authority
owns land in this area and is actively involving other stakeholders in the potential development of this area.
What is planned for Fishermans Pier?
For many years Fishermans Pier was an important destination in the local community. The plan will build on this heritage and
establish Fishermans Pier as a major node in the system of public spaces around Hamilton Harbour.
The plan is intended to enhance the recreational trail connections in the area and to improve public access to the waterfront. It
is also the intention to include commercial facilities such as restaurants and specialty shops. The development on the harbour side
of the site will reflect its significant heritage character.
The mandate of the Hamilton Port Authority includes the development of waterfront recreational facilities that serve our local
communities. We believe in cooperating with our neighbours and stakeholders to enhance the quality of life around Hamilton Harbour.
The anticipated development of Fishermans Pier will demonstrate the Port Authority's commitment to contributing positively to the
community and to publicly accessible waterfront development.
